Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

In October 2009, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was founded by a merger of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and the Universität Karlsruhe (TH).
KIT Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

Since this fusion, the KIT bundles the missions of both precursory institutions: a university of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg with teaching and research tasks and a large-scale research institution of the Helmholtz Association conducting program-oriented provident research on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany. Thereby, the KIT aims at being Europe's largest facility for research and education. About fifty KIT Institutes are involved in the education programs of the HECTOR School.

The strategic reorientation of the KIT since the merger is of high relevance for visibility and aspiration of the HECTOR School. The vision of the KIT holds true for the Technology Business School as well:

  • The KIT attracts the brightest minds worldwide
  • The KIT sets new standards in teaching and the promotion of young scientists
  • The KIT will be the leading center for energy research in Europe
  • The KIT is a leading partner for innovation of the industry

HECTOR School: lifelong learning at the KIT

With the HECTOR School offering postgraduate training majors and certificate courses, the KIT also prepares individuals for lifelong learning, not only professionally but also on a private level, thereby meeting the longtime demand of politics and business to integrate innovation with science.
One example of this is the introduction of the master program “Energy Engineering and Management” in 2012: It uses the scientific expertise of the KIT center for energy to support the transfer of knowledge from research to industry regarding the usage of renewable energy.

The International Department of the KIT

The KIT, with its excellent reputation for its classic majors and decades of cooperation with the industry, possesses the optimal potential for offering postgraduate to learn with many practical applications on a high scientific level. Furthermore, the KIT holds the International Department of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology gGmbH (ID) since 1998, a commercial service facility that is tied closely to the KIT through various school concepts. With the HECTOR School under the umbrella of the ID, this enables the organizational processing and service-oriented proposal of an extra occupational master program and, at the same time in close cooperation with the faculties of the KIT, the curricular development of the programs. Concurrently, through the involved institutes, the program has all the necessary research resources at hand, e.g. laboratories, to include up to date research findings in the programs content.
