Certificate Program: Decisions & Risk

This certificate program combines four complementary courses in a structured learning path.

Participants who successfully complete the Certificate Program and pass the final examination receive the corresponding ECTS credits. These credits are fully recognized as one module within the HECTOR School Master of Science program.

Participants develop key competencies in decision analysis, risk management, and quantitative decision-making in complex and uncertain environments. The program covers decision modeling, risk-aware decision making, interactive decision processes, and robust and stochastic optimization methods. By integrating analytical, computational, and managerial perspectives, participants gain a holistic understanding of how to evaluate alternatives, manage uncertainty, and make informed decisions that create value across organizational contexts.

Program Structure

The full certificate module consists of four interconnected courses. While each course can be attended individually, the complete module provides a coherent learning journey covering decision modeling, risk-aware decision making, interactive decision processes, and robust and stochastic optimization.

Decision Modeling (+ Computer Tutorials)

Introduction to quantitative decision modeling, system analysis, and optimization techniques for supporting decision-making in complex industrial and organizational environments through practical software-based applications.

Date Dec 7 - 9, 2026
Duration 3 days

Risk-Aware Decisions (+ Case Studies + Finance)

Introduction to risk-aware decision-making, uncertainty management, and optimization methods for evaluating business decisions, integrating risk into analytical models, and addressing challenges in complex interconnected systems.

Date Dec 10 - 11, 2026
Duration 2 days

Interactive Decisions

Introduction to game theory, strategic decision-making, and interactive decision processes, focusing on the analysis of competitive and cooperative behavior in economic and managerial contexts.

Date Dec 14 - 16, 2026
Duration 3 days

Robust and Stochastic Optimization

Introduction to optimization under uncertainty, robust and stochastic modeling approaches, and advanced analytical methods for supporting effective decision-making in uncertain and dynamic environments.

Date Dec 17 - 18, 2026
Duration 2 days

How the Courses Fit Together

Participants first build a foundation in quantitative decision modeling, then develop capabilities for managing risk and uncertainty in decision-making, explore strategic interactions through game theory, and finally deepen their expertise in robust and stochastic optimization for complex decision environments.

Who Should Attend

This module is designed for professionals seeking a structured introduction to decision-making, risk management, and optimization in complex business and organizational environments.

  • Managers, consultants, and decision-makers responsible for evaluating alternatives, managing uncertainty, and supporting strategic decision-making
  • Operations, supply chain, and logistics professionals interested in applying quantitative models and optimization techniques to complex organizational challenges
  • Analysts, engineers, and technical professionals seeking to strengthen their skills in decision modeling, risk analysis, and uncertainty-aware optimization
  • Researchers and academics aiming to deepen their understanding of game theory, stochastic optimization, and advanced decision-support methods
  • Professionals working in finance, operations, or strategy who need to assess risk, model complex systems, and make informed decisions under uncertainty
  • Professionals who want a coherent learning path from quantitative decision modeling and risk-aware decision-making to strategic interaction analysis and robust optimization in dynamic environments.
